Day One
The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad
Over 200,000 people of all ages take this wonderful ride every year. It is a great attraction for groups and families. The coal-burning,steam-powered, narrow gauge railroad travels through the spectacular San Juan Mountains. The train follows the Animas River through breathtaking gorges and unbelievable scenery.

The train offers a bus/train combination or you can enjoy the train on a round-trip adventure. A tour of the railroad museum and freight yard is included with the purchase of a train ticket. It is handicapped accessible. The train offers refreshments, snacks and gift shop. Information and tickets call 970-247-2733 or 888-812-4607. Group rates and catering services are available.

Day Two
Archaeological Sites
Southwest Colorado is the archaeological center of the United States. Archaeological day trips include Crow Canyon, Anasazi Heritage Center, Ute Mountain Tribal Park, Chaco Canyon, Chimney Rock Archaeological Area and Aztec National Monument, Hovenweep and the Canyon of the Ancients National Monument. Visit our Archeological Attractions and discover a world of educational entertainment.

Day Three
Mesa Verde National Park
Explore the ancient cliff dwellings once inhabited by the Ancestral Puebloans at Mesa Verde National Park. The park was selected by National Geographic Traveler as one of "The Best Places of a Lifetime to Visit," as well as named the "#1 Monument in the World " by Condé Naste Traveler. The entrance fee for a 1-6 passenger commercial van is $25, a 7-25 passenger commercial van is $45 and motor coach is $200. This trip is ranked as outstanding by visiting groups. Day Four
Durango Museums and Historic Tours
Your group will enjoy half a day visiting one of our several museums or historic tours. This is a relaxing way to learn more about our history. Travel back to time while visiting The Animas Museum or the Grand Motorcar and Piano Collection.

Shopping
Everyone enjoys walking downtown Durango and exploring the many fine art galleries featuring western and southwestern art and a great mix of one-of-a-kind, family-owned shops.

Jeep Tours
If your group is into exploring nature, a Jeep Tour is a fantastic way to do it. Explore the majestic San Juan Mountains. See ghost towns, mining camp remnants, spectacular alpine flowers and wildlife.

River Trips
But if their interest is for a more exciting activity, the Animas River is a great source of entertainment. There are several rafting companies located in Durango to guide your group down the
Animas River on a ride lasting from 2 hours to 3 days. The time for the most action is in late May and early June, when the river is the highest due to spring run-off from the mountains. For calmer rides, late July through August is best time of the year.

Horseback Rides
Visiting the west is not complete without at least a stagecoach ride. Our many outfitters can assist you preparing a personalized program for your group members.

Durango Nature Studies
From wetlands to wild lands, discover a world of natural wonders. Durango Nature Studies offers customized programs for 10-75 children or adults. Spend 2-3 hours on an interactive, naturalist-led nature walk with topics ranging from birds to plants and much more!

  • Gaming at the Sky Ute Casino. The Casino can also arrange a Native American show for your group.
  • Hiking is a great way to relax. Durango is a hikers dream! There are many trails in the close vicinity to town or hundreds that are within a short drive. Some local favorites are the Colorado trail, Animas City Mountain, Haflin Creek, Hermosa Creek and Purgatory Creek Trail.
