Durango High School Girls Basketball Camp

FFive day camp for girls grades 3 through 9. Covers fundamentals of basketball in a fun, sports-filled environment. All skill levels welcome.  Date:  June 23-27, 2008.

Durango Family Mountain Bike Camp

Our camps are designed to provide skill improvement by quality instruction both on and off the trail in a fun, safe and supportive environment. Our main goal is to increase ability and interest in mountain biking as a lifelong activity.  Our versatile, experienced staff includes trained coaches and moms, all with a passion for the sport. Camps dates: July 11-13 from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm.

Durango Volleyball Camp

Durango Camps is entering into its ninth year of presenting volleyball learning experiences for youngsters of all ages and abilities. We will continue to offer outstanding facilities, coaching and programs to help the volleyball player in your family maximize their playing potential.  Day and resident camper options will be available. This camp is for girls only and will expose the participants to the indoor game, the grass format and beach doubles.  Fort Lewis College will once again provide the backdrop for our week long Youth Camp for girls ages 11 to 18. Dates are July 20 through 25.  So that participants receive the greatest possible opportunity to expand and improve their game, we will limit participation to no more than 36 individuals.

Fort Lewis Soccer Academy

Learn the fundamentals of soccer and team play in a motivating and athletic environment.  Programs tailored for individual soccer players and teams ranging from fun experience for the young and the elite players looking seeking expert knowledge from one of the top NCAA programs in the nation. Utilizes 5 full-sized soccer fields at the breathtaking “campus in the sky”.  Instructors include former MLS and NCAA coaches, college players and high school coaches.  Camp tuition ranges from $145 for morning camps to $230 for day camps to $500 for residential camps. Team and family discounts are available.

Fort Lewis College Skyhawk Basketball Camp (Men)

Expert instruction for all levels of skill and competition.   Focus on the fundamentals of basketball with emphasis on position play, games, shooting, ball handling and defense.  “Start Smart” camp provides the opportunity for young and beginning players to learn the game correctly.  All camps incorporate contests and competition to improve play.  Individual Camp expands skills.  Team Camp is open to high school teams.  Includes lecture series and team play.  Held at Fort Lewis College—6 full courts, swimming pool, and training room.  Camp specifics are not available at this time.

Fort Lewis Girls' Basketball Camps

For the past three summers, the Fort Lewis College women’s basketball team has offered an opportunity for girls of all ages to learn and to perfect the game of basketball at their camps. They challenge campers to improve their basketball skills and learn more about the game. The outstanding camp staff is knowledgeable and eager to help develop the camper’s basketball game. The Skyhawk's offer three camps this summer for all ages.

Fort Lewis College Volleyball Camps

Skyhawk volleyball camp is open to all enthusiastic volleyball players!  Choose from five individual clinics with general and specific skill focus.  All participants will receive individual instruction on the fundamentals of passing, setting, hitting, blocking, digging and serving. These are all the skills necessary for becoming a more skilled volleyball player. Each camper will receive a camp t-shirt.

Four Corners Riversports--Kayaking for Kids

Stay cool this summer on the river! Our program has proven to be one of the most successful and respected paddling schools in the country. We introduce kids/young adults from 6 to16 years of age to the lifetime sport of kayaking. We strive to provide the highest quality paddling instruction, and be a resource for your paddling needs. Our program emphasizes proper technique, safety, and fun.

  • Tadpole Classes--Ages 6 – 8
    This three day program is tailored for 6-8 year olds and is a non-whitewater introduction to the world of kayaks. Time will be spent in the solar heated pool, lake, and, if appropriate, slow moving stretches of the Animas river. Emphasis is on safety and fun in and around kayaks and rivers.. July 14-16, July 28-30, Aug 4-6, Aug 11-13. $135

  • Parent/Child Class -Child Ages 8 - 16
    Learn the sport of kayaking side by side with your son or daughter! This course will cover the essentials of the beginner class with teaching styles adapted for both children and adults. Come with a youthful attitude! July 19-20, Aug 16-17. $260 ($60/add. person)

  • Family Kayak Class - Ages 6+
    Have fun with on the water with the whole family! Get three family members together for a great learning experience. Any day early May-September. $110/person/day (10% discount each additional full day)

  • Little Kids Intro to Kayaking Class - Ages 8 – 10
    This class is for those young folks who want to get a taste of what kayaking is all about. We will start in our heated pool then move to the lake, and finally an easy, flat, moving water section of the Animas River. Includes all necessary equipment and transportation. July 7-11, July 21-25, July 28-Aug 1, Aug 4-8, Aug 11-15. $185

  • Youth Level 1 Kayak -  Ages 10-16
    This beginning kids/young adult kayaking class is for those who want to get into paddling and have fun! This class will give students a solid foundation of paddling skills in which to continue in the sport of kayaking. We will begin in a solar heated pool, and the lake, and eventually progress to appropriate whitewater sections of the Animas River. Minimum age for this class is 10 years old. Includes all necessary equipment and transportation. June 16-20, June 30-July 4, July 28-Aug 1, Aug 11-15. $185

  • Youth Level 2 Kayak -  Ages 10-16
    This class is for those paddlers who have completed a beginner class or who have previous experience and want a review. We will review strokes, continue working on rolls, review basic maneuvers and then progress to whitewater sections of the Animas River. We will then work on good paddling technique and beginning surfing/playing. Includes all necessary equipment and transportation. June 9-13, June 23-27, July 7-11, July 21-25, Aug 4-8. $185

  • Youth Level 3 Kayak -  Ages 10-16
    Get ready to play hard and shred the river! This class is for those young paddlers who have significant kayaking experience and want to focus on more advanced river running skills and maneuvers, as well as play boating and surfing. Most of the time in this class will be spent on whitewater sections of the Animas River. Prerequisite for this class is completion of a Level I class or significant experience. Includes all necessary equipment and transportation. June 2-6, June 16-20, June 30-July 4. $185

  • Kayak Roll Session -  Ages 6+
    Learn to roll a kayak for the first time or tune up your existing roll. Different types of rolls will be presented (sweep, C - C, back deck, hand rolls, offside), and instruction is catered to your skill level with a step-by-step progression. Includes all necessary equipment. Early May-September. $30

Summer Adventure Camp at Purgatory

The most exciting day camp in the Rockies, Kids Summer Adventure Camp at Purgatory Mountain focuses on the outdoors, as well as developing self-esteem, teamwork and ecological awareness. Major activities include mountain biking, climbing wall, low ropes course, teamwork exercises, hikes, and nature studies. Other activities are disc golf, basketball, miniature golf, volleyball, alpine slide, and educational indoor activities during inclement weather. The camp runs weekdays during the summer.

Conservatory Music in the Mountains

Two and three week programs to expand your musical experiences with acclaimed teachers and performers. Conservatory Music in the Mountains 2008 is held at Fort Lewis College, surrounded by the San Juan National Forest and its mountain range. The program offers 2 orchestras—Chamber for advanced students and Concert for intermediate students. Kids with Strings Attached introduces the violin to children with little or no musical experience. Programs run July 13 - August 3.

Durango Performing Arts Camp (DPAC)

The Durango Arts Center will kickoff their second season of their Durango Performing Arts Camp (DPAC) June 15 through June 21, 2008. Local families and visitors to the area can provide their children age 12 to 18 with a weeklong camp experience that focuses on the theater arts. Camp directors Caitlin Connaughton-Cross and Denise Hagemeister both have strong backgrounds in the theater arts and recruited colleagues with experience from Broadway to Hollywood to make up their highly qualified staff of seven who jumped at the chance to spend a week in the beautiful mountain setting of southwestern Colorado.

Durango Parks & Recreation

The Durango Parks and Recreation Department offers a wide variety of programs and activities for children of all ages year round. Specifically, in the summer the popular Kid's Camp Program, known as "Game time" offers week day adventures and participants can sign up by the day, week or month. There's also Trail Trekkers, Arts and Crafts, Swimming Lessons, Mountain Biking, Baseball, Roller Blading and In-line Hockey, Gymnastics Camps and more. Drop in day use activities include lots of fun activities for kids and families at the Durango Community Recreation Center and Chapman Hill Rink.

Durango Mountain Camp

 

Durango Mountain Camp features six “major focus” outdoor activities including Kayaking, Horsemanship, Mountain Biking, Wild Colorado, Climbing and Scuba. Each of these activities will last 2 weeks. Campers may choose to 3 of these 4 activities. If a camper has a specific strong interest, the camper may elect to choose just 1 of 2 activities and participate in that activity for a longer length of time.

Colvig Silver Camps

As a small family-owned residential camp, Colvig Silver Camps focuses on outdoor education/appreciation and personal growth in a non-competitive environment. We use a balance of both in-camp activities and 3-5 day wilderness adventure trips to attain this goal. Through our in-camp activities, we strive to instill positive social skills. Leadership, cooperation, trust, self-confidence, personal responsibility, individual growth, and a sense of identity are at the core of our philosophy. Together, our in-camp and out of camp activities work toward achieving our primary goal of creating caring, thoughtful, and responsible human beings. Cross Bar X Youth Ranch

Christian summer camp for low income families. One week and 10 day camps through the summer. Activities include horseback riding, lake activities, archery, crafts, ropes course, back packing and more. This objective is accomplished by two means: 1) To provide awesome summer camps and support programs. 2) To encourage involvement with churches that teach Biblical truths.
